With less than a month remaining until its premiere, new Wednesday images reveal better looks at Lurch and other Nevermore characters. Developed by Smallville co-creators Alfred Gough and Miles Millar and the prolific Tim Burton, Wednesday is due to premiere on Netflix, November 23. The series is based on the character Wednesday Addams from Charles Addams’ Addams Family cartoon strip, and sees Scream‘s Jenna Ortega tackling the title role, while Catherine Zeta-Jones, Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez, George Burcea, Fred Armisen, and Victor Dorobantu play the Addams Family characters Morticia, Gomez, Pugsley, Lurch, Uncle Feslter, and Thing. Wednesday will also feature Gwendoline Christie, and Christina Ricci, the original Wednesday actress from the 1991 The Addams Family movie, appearing in key roles.
Wednesday will follow its titular heroine as she gets admitted into the Nevermore Academy after being expelled from several schools. At Nevermore, Wednesday attempts to master her psychic abilities, but she is soon pulled into resolving a string of supernatural murders terrorizing the local town that is connected to her parents past from 25 years ago. Amid these challenges, Wednesday also has encounters with several students and faculty members at Nevermore, with the story progressing as she navigates these new relationships at her new institution.
Now, Netflix has shared some new Wednesday images, and reveal the first looks at several Nevermore and Addams Family characters. Audiences can get their first glimpse at Burcea’s Lurch, the Addams Family butler, who was notably missing from the previous Wednesday trailers and teasers, as well as a group of the Addams daughter’s Nevermore classmates.Take a look at the images above:
What Do The New Images Reveal About Netflix’s Wednesday
While the new Wednesday images are mainly abstract snapshots taken from across the upcoming show, they do give away some story hints about the Netflix series. For one, although Wednesday is marketed as a supernatural comedy, the new pictures strongly suggest that it will have all the elements of any conventional Netflix YA series. The friendship between Ortega’s protagonist and Myers’ Enid Sinclair will be a key focus of the show, and the new images showcase how their bond will continue to evolve throughout the series. Wednesday also seems to have in store some twisty relationships for its titular heroine, as it seems from the images that Ortega’s character will potentially get entangled in a love triangle with Hunter Doohan’s Tyler and Percy Hynes White’s Xavier.
While all the new Wednesday images stand true to the Burtonesque expressionist aesthetic, they succesfully avoid revealing any information or teasers about the monstrous killing spree that will grip the local town in the new Addams Family show. It makes sense that the creators do not want to give any spoilers about the central conflict, but without any hints at how hell will break loose around Nevermore, audiences’ curiosity remains unsatiated. Thankfully, there is not much time before Wednesday arrives on Netflix, so fans will not have to wait too long to learn about the ominous mystery connected to the Addams Family’s past.
