Despite recent reports suggesting The Mandalorian season 3 has an official premiere date, the live-action Star Wars series does not currently have a release scheduled The upcoming season of the Disney+ series will see the return of Pedro Pascal’s lone armored gunslinger, alongside his adoptive foundling Grogu. The Mandalorian season 3 trailer was released to online audiences during D23, teasing a conflict surrounding the home world of the Mandalorians.
Two years since the conclusion of season 2, The Mandalorian will finally return to screens in 2023. After assisting Boba Fett’s (Temuera Morrison) rise to power and reuniting with Grogu, Din Djarin will venture back to the ruins of Mandalore in a quest to redeem himself as a Mandalorian once more after breaking his clan’s oaths. Despite piloting a custom Naboo N-1 starfighter and wielding the legendary Darksaber, Din is faced with many trials, including the prospect of a new Mandalorian civil war with Bo-Katan (Katee Sackoff) and the return of the currently incarcerated Imperial Remnant leader Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito). The Mandalorian season 3 is one of Disney+’s highly-anticipated 2023 series, but while recent rumors have suggested that the show will air at the start of 2023, things aren’t as certain as they seem.
Recent reports from Making Star Wars claim The Mandalorian season 3 will premiere on February 22. However, when Screen Rant reached out to Disney for clarification on whether the reported date was accurate, the company stated that season 3’s release date is not yet locked in. It’s worth mentioning that this year’s Star Wars Celebration brought the news that The Mandalorian will return in February 2023, so the potential date isn’t entirely out of the question.
When Could The Mandalorian Season 3 Potentially Be Released?
While The Mandalorian‘s release is currently unscheduled, there are several details currently available that could hint at when it may premiere. February is still a likely candidate, but there are other factors at play. Following The Bad Batch season 2’s delay from a late 2022 release, the animated series is confirmed to premiere on January 4, with season 2 being composed of 16 episodes. Currently, Disney+ has scheduled their releases so that no two original shows from the same property air simultaneously, as seen with their handling of Marvel and Star Wars titles. As such, there’s a chance The Mandalorian season 3 may actually debut between April and May, after The Bad Batch concludes, with the animated show’s delay affecting the previously reported February release. Furthermore, Star Wars Celebration 2023 is set to be held in London on April 7-10, meaning that season 3 could see major promotion from the event through dedicated panels or even exclusive screenings for attendees, similar to Obi-Wan Kenobi‘s presence at the 2022 Celebration event in Anaheim.
While The Mandalorian‘s ultimate endgame is reportedly planned and known by Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni, many dedicated fans are speculating where Din and Grogu’s stories may take them after The Book of Boba Fett resolved many of season 2’s biggest cliffhangers. With Din’s quest to reunite Grogu with the Jedi concluded, and his ownership of the Darksaber establishing him as a potential candidate to reunite and lead Mandalore, The Mandalorian season 3 promises to shake up the show’s formula and venture into new territory. However, with Disney refuting reports surrounding the potential February release date, fans may have to wait longer than they hope to rejoin Din and Grogu’s clan of two.
