Stunning digital fan art of Harwin Strong (Ryan Corr) and Lucerys Targaryen (Elliot Grihault) will break House of the Dragon fans’ hearts.
Fan art of Harwin Strong (Ryan Corr) and Lucerys Targaryen (Elliot Grihault) is quite the emotional depiction of their unexplored father-son relationship in House of the Dragon. Based on George R.R. Martin’s fantasy novel, Fire & Blood, the new HBO series broke records as it wowed critics and audiences alike with its tense drama and compelling performances. Set approximately 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, the prequel show centers on the brewing civil war at the heart of House Targaryen following King Viserys I Targaryen’s (Paddy Considine) decision to name his daughter Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) as his heir apparent.
Although Rhaenyra married Ser Laenor Velaryon (John Macmillan) and had three sons, Laenor fathered none of them. Instead, they were the result of an affair between the princess and Harwin. Unfortunately, Harwin was killed in a fire at House Strong’s home, Harrenhal, ignited by agents of Harwin’s brother, Larys Strong (Matthew Needham). The House of the Dragon season 1 finale saw another tragedy befall Rhaenyra with her son Lucerys attacked and killed by Prince Aemond Targaryen (Ewan Mitchell) and his dragon, Vhagar.
Digital artist Rachel Hoo took to social media to share her heartbreaking House of the Dragon fan art featuring Harwin and Lucerys. The beautifully rendered image shows the young prince in the arms of his father, a warm embrace between two victims of the many power struggles that plague Westeros.
How Lucerys Death Impacts House of the Dragon
Following the Hightower’s coup and Aegon II’s orchestrated ascension to the throne, terms were delivered to Rhaenyra at Dragonstone that would allow for a peaceful transition with no blood to be shed. However, Aemond’s killing of Lucerys not only took peace off the table as a viable option but enraged Rhaenyra in such a way that the Greens will feel the full force of her might. Although the betrayal of her family hurt Rhaenyra deeply, it was her son’s death that will force her to action and commence the Dance of the Dragons.
With no turning back, Rhaenyra and her council will organize their assault on the Greens, strategically attacking their allies as a full-frontal assault will not win over public support and their number of dragon riders is few. As the war looms, there is nothing but death and mourning in the near future for both Rhaenyra and Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke). With House of the Dragon season 2 set to premiere in 2024, audiences have to be patient to see how Rhaenyra will react to Lucerys’ death.
